ABOUT
US

Start Academy invites students into the wonderful world of art where opportunities are endless. Our Art Mix program is based on the Ontario Curriculum for Fine Arts and beyond. Each school year we offer Fall Term (September-January), Spring Term (February-June) and Summer Term (June-August) art classes. During each term students work with acrylic and watercolour paint, oil and soft pastels, collage, pencil, ink, clay and mixed media to create landscapes, portraiture, still-life, abstract, and imaginary works. A Trial class is available for every child and free of charge if you are not signing up for the program.
Start academy is committed to excellence in social and academic development of each student. We measure excellence through student engagement and individual progress. Each lesson is carefully designed to inspire, engage, and challenge. Students are led through the creative process with every art piece they make. The process involves exploring, imagining, sketching and producing final work through a fun hands on educational experience.
Start Academy was established in 2014 by Alexandra Reznik, an accomplished young artist, who has been teaching fine arts for over 16 years. Alexandra graduated from OCAD University in 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, specializing in Drawing and Painting. Her passion for sharing knowledge with children led her to obtain a Bachelor of Education from Queens University.
Alexandra is an active member of Ontario College of Teachers. She is an imaginative and resourceful teacher with superior interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to foster meaningful relationships with students. Since 2009 as a part of an Artist in Residence project Alexandra has been working with students at YRDSB helping them to create beautiful murals, mosaics, sculptures, installations and paintings.
Creating Start Academy for young artists was a dream that came true for Alexandra, who today successfully balances her passion for fine art and education.
